About the Scheme

The scheme “Sugamya Pustakalaya” implemented by the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun, aims to make educational, literary, and informative content accessible to persons with visual and print disabilities through an online platform.

Benefits

  • Accessible Formats: Access to over 5,000 titles including braille books, audiobooks, and e-books in multiple Indian languages.
  • Free Membership: Individual membership is free for persons with visual or print disabilities.
  • Institutional Membership: Available for organizations at ₹2,000/- annually or ₹5,000/- for 3 years.

Eligibility

  • Individuals: Must have a visual impairment or print disability and possess a valid disability certificate.
  • Institutions: Must be a recognized organization working for persons with disabilities.

Application Process

Visit Sugamya Pustakalaya.

  1. Individual Registration: Click “Register as End User”, provide information, and select a library. Once approved, you can log in and download books.
  2. Organization Registration: First become a member of DAISY Forum of India (www.daisyindia.org). Then register as a library on the Sugamya Pustakalaya portal, providing contact details and an organizational logo.

Documents Required

  • Individual: Disability Certificate, UDID Card, and Aadhaar card.
  • Institutional: Application on letterhead and Registration Certificate under the Societies Act.
