The scheme “Rajiv Gandhi Social Security Scheme for Poor Families – 2012” was started by the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management, Union Territory of Puducherry. The objective is to provide financial assistance to Below Poverty Line (BPL) family members in the age group of 18-60 years, in the event of natural and unnatural death, or disability due to accidents.

Definitions

  • Member: Persons aged 18–60 years in a BPL family with annual family income not exceeding ₹75,000/-.
  • Partial Total Disability: Disability less than 40%.
  • Permanent Total Disability: Disability more than 40%.

Benefits

  • Natural death: ₹30,000/-
  • Unnatural death: ₹75,000/-
  • Permanent Total Disability (PTD) due to an accident: ₹75,000/-
  • Partial Permanent Total Disability due to accident: ₹37,500/-

Eligibility

  • The member must be from a BPL family.
  • Age should be between 18-60 years.
  • Permanent resident of Puducherry.
  • Annual family income not more than ₹75,000/-.
  • Beneficiaries cannot double-claim from other government schemes for the same event.

Application Process

Offline

  • Step 1: Obtain claim application forms (Form-A for death, Form-B for disability) from Taluk/Sub-Taluk Offices or the official website.
  • Step 2: Submit the completed form to the Tahsildar/Deputy Tahsildar within 180 days from the date of death or accident.
  • Step 3: The office scrutinizes the form and forwards eligible claims to the Settlement Officer.
  • Step 4: Settlement Officer sanctions assistance through e-payment to the beneficiary’s nationalized bank account.

Documents Required

  • Attested photocopy of BPL Family Ration card.
  • Original Income Certificate.
  • Original Death Certificate or Disability Certificate.
  • For accidental/unnatural cases: Attested photocopy of F.I.R, Post-mortem report, and Police Inquest report.
  • Attested photocopy of Aadhaar Card.
  • Attested photocopy of the first page of the bank passbook.
