The “Mukhyamantri Apprenticeship Yojana (MAY)”, launched in 2018-19 by the Labour and Employment Department, Gujarat, seeks to create a robust ecosystem for skill development through “on-the-job” and “off-the-job” training. The scheme aligns with national initiatives like the “National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS)” and the “National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS)”, targeting to engage 1 lakh youth in apprenticeships. The scheme provides additional incentives for employers beyond the benefits under NAPS and NATS.

Benefits

Stipend Categories:

• Trade apprentice (MSDE): ₹1,500/-
• Optional trade apprentice (MSDE): ₹3,000/- (Graduate); ₹2,000/- (Diploma); ₹1,500/- (Others)
• Technician (Vocational) apprentices (MSDE): ₹1,500/-
• Technician apprentices (MOE): ₹2,000/- (Diploma in engineering or non-engineering stream)
• Graduate apprentices (MOE): ₹3,000/- (Graduates in engineering or non-engineering stream)

Duration of Training: Between 6-24 months for Optional Trade and 6-36 months for Designated Trade. Trainees from NCVT/GCVT patterns may be allowed rebates in duration.

Eligibility

• The applicant must be a resident of Gujarat.
• At least 14 years old (18 years for hazardous trades).
• Must meet the minimum educational qualification (minimum 5th pass).
• Must satisfy physical fitness standards.
• Must not have been engaged in a similar apprenticeship program previously.
