The scheme “Home for Mentally Challenged Children” by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Puducherry, aims to provide care for children facing mental challenges, i.e. low Intelligence Quotient (IQ). The scheme offers free boarding and lodging, uniform sets, daily living needs, and medical check-ups for the inmates. Additionally, it includes educational and recreational activities to enhance their overall well-being.

Eligibility

Boys in the age group of 7 to 17 years with the following IQ levels:

• Mild Mental Retardedness (IQ 50-70).
• Moderate Mental Retardedness (IQ 35-49).
• Severe Mental Retardedness (IQ 20-34).
• Profound Mental Retardedness (IQ under 20).
• Unspecified Mental Retardedness with mental efficiency and sub-normality.

Application Process

Offline

• Step 1: Request the hard copy of the form from the Office of Social Welfare during office hours or print the format.
• Step 2: Fill mandatory fields, paste photograph, and attach self-attested copies of documents.
• Step 3: Submit to the Deputy Director (Differently Abled Section, Puducherry) or relevant Sub-Office in other regions.
• Step 4: Request a receipt with a unique identification number.
