Description

Launched in 2002, this scheme by the Department of Information and Publicity, Government of Goa, provides welfare funds to retired working journalists and financial protection to their families.

Benefits

Monthly Welfare Fund
₹7,500 per month for eligible retired journalists, disbursed by cheque after the 6th of every month.

Family Welfare
50% of the pension amount for the spouse, unmarried children below 21, and dependent parents in the event of the journalist’s death.

Return of Contribution
Contribution returned if membership is lost due to default or leaving the profession.

Eligibility

  • Retired after 15 years of service in Goa.
  • Minimum 50 years of age.
  • Must have contributed for 180 months (relaxation for serious ailments if registering within 6 months of implementation).
  • Must be covered under the Working Journalists Act.

Exclusion

  • Membership lost if not working as a journalist for one continuous year.
  • Membership lost for 6 months contribution default (restoration possible up to 3 times).

Application Process

Offline
Step 1: Register using Annexure-I at the Department of Information and Publicity.
Step 2: Apply for welfare using Annexure-II upon retirement.
Step 3: Applications are considered by the Governing Body within one month.

Documents Required

  • Newspaper Statement (Annexure-III) regarding service details.
  • Birth/Age Proof.
  • Employment Certificate from newspaper or Union of Working Journalists.
  • Passbook with contribution details.
