The “Craftsmen Training Scheme” was launched by the Directorate General of Training, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. The scheme aims to ensure a steady flow of skilled workers in different trades for the domestic industry, to raise quantitatively and qualitatively the industrial production by systematic training, to reduce unemployment among the educated youth by providing them with employable skills, and to cultivate and nurture a technical and industrial attitude in the minds of the younger generation. The scheme provides systematic vocational training through a network of Industrial Training Institutes and National Skill Training Institutes located all over the country, offering comprehensive skill development programs in various trades and conducting All India Trade Tests for certification.

Eligibility

The applicant must be physically and medically fit to undergo the specific trade training.
The applicant must not have any physical disabilities that would prevent them from performing the trade activities.
The applicant must meet specific requirements for certain trades (such as color vision for electrical trades).
The applicant must demonstrate basic aptitude for the chosen trade.

Step 1: The candidate must visit the Industrial Training Institute and obtain the prescribed application form.
Step 2: The applicant should fill out the application form completely with accurate personal details, educational background, trade preference, and attach all required documents with proper attestation.
Step 3: The candidate must pay the prescribed application and training fees as applicable and submit the completed application form along with all supporting documents to the authorised staff of the Institute, within the specified deadline.

Post-Application Processes
Step 1: Merit List and Selection Process
The institutes will prepare merit lists based on educational qualifications and other criteria, and selected candidates will be notified about their admission through official communication channels.
Step 2: Admission Confirmation and Document Verification
Selected candidates must report to the institute on the specified date for document verification, admission confirmation, and completion of remaining formalities, including medical examination if required.
Step 3: Training Commencement
After successful admission confirmation, candidates will begin their vocational training as per the institute’s academic calendar and training schedule for their respective trades.
