The scheme “Imbichi Bawa Housing Renovation Scheme” by the Minority Welfare Department, Government of Kerala, aims to improve the basic facilities of houses belonging to widowed, divorced, or abandoned women from minority religious communities. Through this scheme, financial assistance is provided for house repairs to eligible women belonging to Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Sikh, Parsi, and Jain communities. Benefits

Eligibility

  • The applicant must belong to one of the following minority religious communities: Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Sikh, Parsi, or Jain.
  • The applicant must be a widow, divorced woman, or abandoned woman.
  • The house, owned by the applicant or her spouse, should not exceed 1200 square feet in area.
  • The applicant must be the sole breadwinner of the family.
  • The house should lack basic facilities such as proper windows, doors, roofing, flooring, finishing, plumbing, sanitation, or electrification.

Preference/Priority/Reservation/Relaxation

  • Preference is given to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
  • Preference is given to applicants whose children face physical or mental challenges.
  • Preference is given to applicants who have only daughters.
  • Preference is given to applicants who do not have children.

Exclusion

  • The applicant should not have children with a permanent income from government or semi-government institutions.
  • The applicant should not have received financial assistance for house construction from the government or similar agencies within the last 10 years.

Application Process

Offline

Step 1: Visit to official website of the Directorate of Minority Affairs. In the “News & Updates” section, click on “Application invited for Imbichi Bawa Housing Renovation scheme 2025-26” and download the application form. Take a printout of the application form.
Step 2: In the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields, paste the passport-sized photograph (signed across, if required), and attach copies of all the mandatory documents (self-attest, if required).
Step 3: Submit the duly filled and signed application form along with the documents to one of the following address –
– Minority Welfare Section of the respective District Collectorate.
– (By Post) Deputy Collector (General), District Minority Welfare Section, District Collectorate.

Documents Required

  • Land Tax Receipt Copy (for the 2025-26 financial year, in the name of the applicant or spouse)
  • Permanent Residence Certificate (from the local self-government institution)
  • Husband’s Death Certificate Copy (if the applicant is a widow)
  • Certificate Proving Divorce/Abandonment (if the applicant is divorced/abandoned)
  • Certificate from an Authorised Officer of the Local Self-Government Institution (confirming the need for house repair and the house’s area)
  • Certificate from an Authorised Officer of the Local Self-Government Institution (confirming that the applicant has not received house renovation or construction benefits from other departments or similar agencies within the last 10 years)
  • Copies of Documents Proving Mental/Physical Challenges/Serious Illnesses (such as cancer, kidney problems, heart disease, liver cirrhosis, paralysis, or other serious illnesses, if applicable)
  • Certificate Confirming Name Consistency (if there is a difference between the name on the Ration Card and the application)
