The scheme “Janani Suraksha Yojana” was launched on 12th April 2005 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It aims to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by promoting institutional delivery among poor pregnant women.
Benefits
Institutional Delivery (Mother’s Package):
- LPS States: Rural ₹1,400; Urban ₹1,000.
- HPS States: Rural ₹700; Urban ₹600.
- North-Eastern/Tribal districts: ₹700.
ASHA Package:
- Rural: ₹600 (ANC + delivery facilitation).
- Urban: ₹400 (ANC + delivery facilitation).
- Includes referral transport earmark (approx ₹250).
Other Benefits:
- Home Delivery: ₹500 for BPL women.
- C-Section/Complications: Up to ₹1,500 to the institution for hiring specialists.
- JSSK Alignment: Free drugs, diagnostics, blood, diet, and transport.
Eligibility
- LPS: All pregnant women in govt/accredited facilities.
- HPS/Private Institutions: BPL or SC/ST women.
- Home Delivery: BPL certificate mandatory.
Application Process
Offline
- Step 1: Registration by ASHA/ANM 20-24 weeks before delivery.
- Step 2: Filling of Maternal and Child Health card.
- Step 3: Verification by Medical Officer of PHC.
- Step 4: Cash disbursement typically at discharge (within 7 days of delivery).
