The scheme “The Grant of Honorarium to Legal Researcher Scheme” was launched by the Law Department, Union Territory of Puducherry. The scheme aims to address the high volume of cases before various fora where Departments find it very hard to submit their defense documents (Affidavits/Reply Statements/Counter Affidavits) at the appropriate time through the Law Officers. The scheme provides for engaging 15 Legal Research Assistants on a fixed honorarium for an initial period of two years.

Benefits

• Research Assistant shall be paid ₹25,000/- per month as honorarium.
• The assignment is initially for two years, extendable by one more year.
• Access to Computers and internet facilities in the Law Department.
• One day Casual Leave for each Calendar Month (max 8 days per year).

Assignment Location

The Legal Researchers shall be attached to major Departments including Law, Police, Education, Revenue, Health, Local Administration, D.P.&A.R., PWD, Social Welfare, Civil Supplies, Commercial Taxes, Industries, Women and Child Development, and Transport.

Post-Selection Obligations

• Cannot practice as an Advocate during the assignment.
• Must inform the Bar Council of the non-practice status.
• Cannot take up other employment.
• Mark attendance; may be required to work on weekends/holidays without extra pay.
• One month notice required to leave the assignment.

Eligibility

• Applicant must be a citizen of India and resident of Puducherry.
• Postgraduate in Law (2 years programme) from recognized Universities.
• Must not be pursuing another degree requiring compulsory attendance.
• Age: Max 30 years (32 years for one-time relaxation as of 1st Jan 2023).

Application Process

Offline

• Step 1: Download the application proforma from the Law Department’s official website.
• Step 2: Fill in mandatory fields, affix self-attested photo, and sign the undertaking.
• Step 3: Submit to the Under Secretary to Government, Law Department, Chief Secretariat, Puducherry by the specified deadline (usually 28th April).
• Step 4: Selected candidates will undergo a Viva Voce. Final selection is by a Committee.
